Jindal Steel Offers Granulated Pig Iron from Its Angul, Odisha Plant

Jindal Steel, the fourth largest steel maker in India with annual steel capacity of 10.75 MnT, has started to offer Granulated pig iron from its newly commissioned Angul, Odisha plant.
The company named this new product as "Panther Shots" which is the key substitute of Pig iron, Scrap & DRI and are produced by solidifying hot metal in cooling water.
According to the officials, as an Introductory offer the company is offering this product at INR 20,500/MT (USD 320) ex-plant, Angul Odisha.
Currently Tata steel is supplying granulated pig iron in the name of Ferro shots and it is getting popular in Indian and global market.
India produces around 9-10 MnT of pig iron (steel and foundry both), out of which 5-6 million tonnes is used by induction and electric arc furnaces.
With increase availability of granulated pig iron, supply and demand dynamics may change marginally for sponge and pig iron manufacturers.

What is the Granulated Pig iron ?
The Granulated pig iron is produced by solidifying hot metal in cooling water. The end use of it includes electric arc furnaces, induction furnaces, basic oxygen furnaces and foundries as a replacement of pig iron, scrap or DRI. Its inherent properties lead to better yield, higher productivity and lower energy cost.
