Japan's JFE Steel to revamp Blast Furnace at its Kurashiki Plant

JFE Steel Corporation, Japan's leading integrated steel producers has officially announced that it will revamp the blast furnace No.4 of the company's West Japan Works (Kurashiki). The blow-in is scheduled for the second half of the fiscal year beginning in April 2021. JFE Steel strives to maintain a production system capable of flexibly and swiftly adjusting to changes in demand.

The estimated total cost of the same is approximately 50 billion yen and the work is scheduled during Sep-Dec 2021. Post-revamp the inner volume of the blast furnace will be increased from 5,005 m3 to 5,100 m3.

JFE Steel Corporation was established through the consolidation of NKK Corporation and Kawasaki Steel Corporation in 2003. The company operates several steelworks in Japan and numerous branch offices and affiliates throughout the world. The company reported consolidated sales of 3,900 billion yen in 2018 and consolidated crude steel output of 27.88 million tons in the fiscal year ended March 2019.
