Japan Steel Import Statistics, Q3 CY19

Japan's import of Iron ore & Finish long steel products stable. Whereas imports of Coal surged by 11% and Flat steel imports drop by 5.26% Q-o-Q in Q3 CY'19, as per custom data maintained by SteelMint.
Coal- Japanese coal imports have increased by 11% Q-o-Q to 49.86 MnT during the third quarter of CY'19 (Jul-Sep'19) compared with 44.84 MnT in Q2 CY'19.
Meanwhile following a strong start to the third quarter wherein the country had noted its highest monthly coal intake for the CY'19, imports in the subsequent months were weighted down by comparatively full stocks and lower thermal generation in the cooling period.
Apparently, coal volume in the third quarter of CY'19 were marked by 2% lower on the year from 50.72 MnT in Q3 CY'18.
Iron ore- On Q-o-Q basis, Japan imports of iron ore almost stable with 30.47 MnT in Q3 CY'19 as against 30.46 MnT in Q2 CY'19.
Finish Flat Steel- Japanese finish flat steel imports fell by 5.26% in Q3 CY'19, accounting for 1.08 MnT in comparison with 1.14 MnT in the preceding quarter.
Higher inventories in the domestic market towards the end of Q2 CY'19 owing to the weakening global demand along with consistent cuts in steel output in Q3 CY'19 mitigate the finish flat steel demand in the nation's domestic market.
Meanwhile, on monthly premises, the same inched down by 2.7% to 0.35 MnT in Sep'19 as compared to 0.36 MnT a month ago.
Finish Flat Stainless Steel- Country's finish flat stainless steel import is registered at 46,020 MT in Q3 CY'19, inched down by 0.49% Q-o-Q as against 46,248 MT in Q2 CY'19.
Finish Long Steel- On Q-o-Q the country's finish long steel import is registered at 0.18 MnT in Q3 CY'19, remained stable against previous quarter.
Whereas on monthly basis imports surged by 20% to 0.06 MnT in Sep'19 as against 0.05 MnT in Aug'19. In line, on yearly basis import enlarged by 50% in Sep'19 as compare to 0.04 MnT in Sep'18.
During third quarter of CY'19, South Korea stood as a top exporter of finish long steel to Japan with 0.08 MnT in, up 14.28% as against 0.07 MnT in Q2 CY'19, followed by China 0.05 MnT in Q3 CY'19 stable against previous quarter and Vietnam 0.02 MnT Q3 CY'19 (-33.33%) as against 0.03 MnT in Q2 CY'19.
Finish Long Stainless Steel- On a quarterly basis, imports of finish long stainless steel down by 19.6% to 5,634 MT in Q3 CY'19 as against 7,009 MT in Q2 CY'19.
Ferro Alloy- Japan registered its Ferro alloy imports at 0.57 MnT in Q3 CY'19, down by 14.92% as against 0.67 MnT in Q2 CY'19.
