Platinum, under the leadership of President Koji Tsunoda, is set to revolutionize the Japanese industrial market with the release of "Green Aluminum Square Bar" on 15 December 2023. This groundbreaking product is the first of its kind in Japan, crafted from aluminium ingots smelted using energy exclusively derived from photovoltaic power generation, marking a significant stride towards sustainability in the industry.
The "ECO63S square bar" is an aluminium extrusion rod made from the environmentally conscious 6063S alloy. The key innovation lies in the utilization of billets provided by Emirates Global Aluminum (UAE), utilizing their eco-friendly aluminium billet "CelestiAL," generated through solar power. Extrusion processes take place at Tachibana Metal Industry's Yoro Plant, showcasing a commitment to reducing CO2 emissions during aluminium billet production by approximately 50%, thanks to electrolytic smelting powered entirely by solar energy.
Available in nine sizes ranging from 20 mm to 60 mm on each side, the 4-meter-long ECO63S square bar will be stocked at the Shiga Plant. Notably, customization services are offered, including cutting and milling, with the ability to create bespoke sizes and shapes for orders exceeding 300 kilograms. This venture aligns with Platinum's ambitious environmental targets, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 42% in FY'30 compared to FY'20 and achieve carbon neutrality by FY'50.
The introduction of the ECO series, emphasizing green materials and manufacturing processes, further solidifies Platinum's commitment to environmentally friendly practices, opening avenues for increased adoption of green aluminium across industries in the future.
