Japanese steel major Nippon Steel has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with mining behemoth Anglo American on decarbonisation solutions.
The steel major is likely to shift its headquarters to the UK for transition after examining iron ore optimisation through the direct reduction process. This will enable the company to lessen its environmental impact by reducing its carbon footprint.
Anglo American is one of the leading suppliers of high-grade iron ore with an annual production of more than 60 million tonnes (mnt).
Nippon Steel has developed innovative technologies for direct reduction of iron by utilising hydrogen in the steelmaking process.
