Japan: Innovative aluminum alloy powder breakthrough by Proterial, SIMTech

Proterial, in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), has achieved a major milestone with the development of 'ADMUSTERL61P' a cutting-edge metal additive manufacturing powder. This groundbreaking innovation is tailored for use with the aluminum alloy Al6061 offering exceptional properties in terms of both high strength and corrosion resistance, according to JMD report.

Industry integration focus:

The primary objective of this accomplishment is the rapid adoption of this innovative aluminum alloy powder across multiple industries, with a special emphasis on aerospace, automotive, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Al6061:

Al6061 stands out as an aluminum alloy thanks to its outstanding mechanical properties and ease of processing. It has been eagerly awaited for application in additive manufacturing, particularly in the fabrication of intricate components for aircraft interiors. However, a persistent technical challenge hindered its widespread use--the occurrence of microcracks in the material's structure during the additive manufacturing process.

In a significant breakthrough, Proterial and the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology have addressed this challenge. They have developed a milling and additive manufacturing process that not only enhances the alloy's strength but also substantially reduces the occurrence of cracks during the additive manufacturing process.

Furthermore, both companies are wholeheartedly committed to forming partnerships with printing collaborators to formulate procedures that align with diverse additive manufacturing equipment types and specifications.
