Japan: Ferro alloys imports up 30% m-o-m in Nov'21

Japan's total ferro alloy imports (ferro chrome, ferro silicon, silico manganese and ferro manganese) reached 149,877 tonnes (t) in Nov'21, up by 30% m-o-m from 115,248 t in Oct'21. Furthermore, there was a significant increase of 139% y-o-y compared to Nov'20 volumes.

Ferro chrome imports jump m-o-m
Japan's ferro chrome imports rose 94% m-o-m to 82,230 t in Nov'21. This is the highest volume seen since CY'20. South Africa (36,086t), Kazakhstan (32,159t), and India (4,632t) are the top exporters. Between Jan-Nov'21, 624,704 t of imported goods were recorded. In Nov'21, Japan's ferro chrome imports surged by 301% compared with Nov'20.

Ferro silicon imports down 19% m-o-m
Japan's ferro silicon imports fell by 19% m-o-m with total imports reaching 31,118 t in Nov'21 as opposed to 38,487t in Oct'21. Meanwhile, ferro silicon imports from Japan increased by 40% in Nov'21 as compared to Nov'20. In terms of imports, China has shipped 11,513 t, Brazil 6,217 t, and Russia 5,730 t.

Silico manganese imports fall 11% m-o-m
Japan's imports of silico manganese stood at 27,007t in Nov'21, down by 11% m-o-m and up by 50% y-o-y. The biggest chunk of imports has been done by India (13,893t), Vietnam (5,574t), and Malaysia (3,926t).

Ferro manganese imports surge 123% m-o-m
Ferro manganese imports by Japan stood at 9,522t in Nov'21, significantly up 123% compared to 4,263t in Oct, SteelMint data shows. In Jan-Nov'21, import volumes jumped 21% to 60,846t compared to 50,301t in the same period last year.
