Manganese alloys imports rise 11% in January 2024
- Japan's manganese alloys imports rose by 11% m-o-m in January 2024 to 30,735 t against 27,747 t due to an increase in its steel output by 4%.
- Silico manganese imports were strong at 23,174 t m-o-m in January 2024 while ferro manganese imports were at 7,561 t, up by over 57% m-o-m in January 2024.
- Meanwhile, imports of manganese ore imports surged m-o-m in January 2024 to 157,004 t in comparison to 65,024 t recorded in December 2023.
Ferro silicon imports up 22% m-o-m in January 2024
- Ferro silicon imports into Japan increased by 22% m-o-m in January 2024 to 30,680 t in comparison to 25,058 t recorded in December 2023.
- Major exporting countries were Brazil (8,971 t), China(6,488 t) and Malaysia(5,701 t).
- However, cumulative imports remained largely stable with a slight decline of 4% y-o-y in January 2024 to 30,680 t as against 32,035 t in January 2023.
Ferro chrome imports down 22% m-o-m in January 2024
- Ferro chrome imports into Japan decreased by 22% m-o-m in January 2024 to 43,678 t in comparison to 55,880 t recorded in December 2023.
- Key exporting countries were Kazakhstan (23,840 t) and South Africa (16,671 t).
- Meanwhile, imports y-o-y by the country in January 2024 period stood at 43,678 t, falling by 37%.
