Iran to Export MME's DRI PERED Technology to China

PERED technology, one of the DRI production process invented by Iran's Mines & Metals Engineering GmbH, is likely to install in China's Shanxi Taihang Mining Co. Ltd (CSTM). CSTM is the China's first company to use coke oven gas as an alternative to natural gas to produce DRI.

Using PERED production technology, service and equipment, the company eyes to increase its iron ore processing and reduce emissions. The deal is said to be Iran's first PERED project implemented overseas.

According to Mr. Hossein Aziztaemeh, engineering manager of MME (PERED Technology Inventor), "The contract with CSTM to import the Iranian technology was signed on May'13. However, the implementation of the project was delayed over the years due to several reasons. "

He added, "The Chinese did not find production of direct-reduced iron economically viable, but things changed after the Chinese government imposed heavy taxes on 'unclean' industries. Therefore, they decided to move toward more clean industries, as they seemed more viable."

Mr. Aziztaemeh Said, "The project will become operational by the end of 2019. MME has several main responsibilities there, namely offering engineering services, selling equipment [completely manufactured in Iran], supervision and offering relevant training."

About PERED Technology

PERED technology is the reduction process which is more efficient, employs improved cooling methods and cuts on pollutant gas emissions. With less heat, more homogeneous gas reduction, more controllable pellet feed and use of centrifugal compressors, PERED requires less water, electricity and gas to operate, which lower operational and maintenance costs.

Iran, one of the largest producer and exporter of DRI in MENA region has exported 374,000 MT DRI during the 7 months of current Persian year, registered a downfall of 21% against 476,000 MT exported in last Persian year.
