Iran: Steel exports drop by 32% y-o-y during H1 Persian Year

The Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) has recently published the export figures of Iran's major steel producers for the current H1 Persian year. According to the report, the steel (semi-finished + finished) exports of the major mills have dropped by 32% y-o-y to reach 2.32 mn t. In the sixth month, the same stood at 0.46 mn t, down by 20% y-o-y.

KSC remained the largest exporter - Khouzestan Steel Company (KSC), Esfahan Steel Company (ESCO), Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC), South Kaveh Steel (SKS), Chadormalu, and Hormozgan Steel Company stood as the prominent steel exporters.

During the period under consideration, almost every major exporter has witnessed a drop in steel exports amid the COVID-19 outbreak. However, Chadormalu was the only mill, which recorded an increase in exports during the first half of the fiscal year. IMIDRO data show a 116% rise in the company's H1 exports.

The IMIDRO report takes into account the export of heavyweight Iranian steel mills only. However, a comprehensive report detailing the performance of small-scale exporters will be published by the Iran Steel Producers Association (ISPA)
