Iran Steel Export Rises Up by 26% in Current Persian Year

According to the latest data released by IMIDRO, Iran; one of the largest exporter of Steel in MENA region; has exported around 5.11 MnT of steel during first nine months of current Persian year (21 Mar-21 Dec'17), registered a growth of 26% Y-o-Y. The nation exported around 530,000 MT in the ninth month of current Persian year, registered a growth of 10% Y-o-Y.

Khouzestan Steel Company (KSC) exported around 1,940,000 MT of slab, bloom and billet during current Persian year, registered a growth of 46% Y-o-Y. Bloom exports had the biggest share of KSC's shipments with 861,726 MT up by 150% Y-o-Y. The company exported 613,242 MT billet, up by 16% Y-o-Y. KSC exported 499,452 MT Slabs registered a growth of 5% Y-o-Y.

The export in 9th month (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) decreased by 2% Y-o-Y noted to be around 239,037 MT. The export is up 41% M-o-M. According to KSC Manager Mohammad Keshani, the company is targeting to export 2.2 MnT this year. The steelmaker, located in the southwestern Khuzestan Province, exports to over a dozen countries. About half of the exports go to the Middle East and North Africa region, while other major export destinations are located in the Far East and Americas.

Esfahan Steel Company was the second biggest exporter during the first nine months of current Persian year with export of 805,434 MT registered a growth of 87% Y-o-Y. Export in 9th month increased by 146% Y-o-Y, noted to be around 63,059 MT.

The company exported 115,451 MT of rebar up by 6% Y-o-Y, followed by beam and coil with 80,343 MT and 48,589 MT respectively. Beam shipments were down by 25% Y-o-Y, while coil exports surged up 999% Y-o-Y. Steel products listed as "other" made up to 561,051 MT of total exports, up by 167% Y-o-Y.

Hormozgan Steel Company, subsidiary of Mobarakeh Steel Company exported 851,138 MT of slabs, up by 5% Y-o-Y. The steelmaker's exports in the ninth month rose by 1% Y-o-Y to 73,241 MT.

Mobarakeh stood at fourth place, as it exported a total of 784,612 MT of flat steel during the nine months, registered a downfall of 43% Y-o-Y. The steelmaker's exports in the ninth month decreased by 58% Y-o-Y noted to be around 57,231 MT.

Together with its subsidiaries, Mobarakeh Steel is the largest flat producer in the Middle East and North Africa region, accounting for 1% of Iran's GDP.
