Iran: Steel Export by Major Steel Mills Decrease by 40%

As per the data released by IMIDRO, Major Iranian steelmakers exported around 3,514,991 MT of Steel during first six months of current Persian year (21 Mar-22 Sep'18). Export decreased by around 1.30% Y-o-Y. Standalone during the sixth month export was noted to be around 380,254, registered a downfall of 40% Y-o-Y.
One of the major reason for decrease in export is US sanctions imposed on Iran in early Aug'18 because of which most of the potential customers are currently refraining from bookings for fear of incurring secondary sanctions. In addition, the number of shipping companies willing to operate in Iran has decreased, which has almost doubled the cost of freight.
Khouzestan Steel Company (KSC) was by far the largest exporter during the period, the company exported around 1,197,730 MT steel during the period. The company registered a downfall of around 14% Y-o-Y. Standalone during the sixth month, export was noted to be around 87,264 down by 63% Y-o-Y.
Major steel products exported by KSC during the six months were Slab (559,923 MT), Bloom (346,780 MT) and Billet (291,027 MT).
Mobarekeh Steel Company (MSC) was the second largest exporter of steel during the period, the company exported 663,650 MT in 6 months, registered a growth of 55% Y-o-Y. During the sixth month, company exported 61,575 MT.
Major steel products exported by MSC were HRC (370,987 MT), Slab (263,006 MT) and other finished flat steel (29,657 MT).
Hormozgan Steel Company (HOSCO) secured the third largest position of steel exporter in Iran exporting 415,346 MT Slabs during the first six months, exports were down by 30% Y-o-Y. HOSCO exported 41,797 MT slab in the sixth month
Esfahan Steel Company (ESCO) exported 567,224 MT of steel during the six months of current Persian year. Exports were down by 14% Y-o-Y.
Major product exported by ESCO were Ingot (114,241 MT), rebar (106,344 MT), followed by beam (73,021 MT) and wire rod (21,132 MT).
Other major exporters includes South Kaveh Steel (459,000 MT) and Khorasan Steel (135,180 MT).
