Iran Set to Export 7 to 8 MnT Steel in 2017-2018

The Chairman of Iranian Mining and Industry Development Organizations (IMIDRO) Mr. Mehdi Karbasian, has recently announced that Iranian steel export will likely reach 7 to 8 MnT in current Persian year (PY-22 Mar'17 to 21 Mar'18).
"In the first half of this year, we have seen a favorable condition in steel sector and Iranian steel makers have managed to export huge tonnage" The Chariman told reporters adding that with current trend, we expect 7 to 8 MnT of export by the end of the year.
He also pointed to the Iranian Steel Comprehensive Plan in 2025 mentioning that "about 20 million tons of export has been seen in this plan, and we try to reach higher value added products, while compensating for the technology loss in recent years."
Mr. Karbasian also noted that in order to put the country on the development path, the steel use per capita should increase from the current 238 kg level to 350 kg in 2025.
In H1'17 Iran has exported around 3.54 MnT of semi-finished and finished steel, it is estimated that during the PY17-18, the nation will export around 7.5 MnT of semi-finished and finished steel. Around 5.25 MnT of semi-finished and 2.25 MnT of finished is expected to be export by the nation.
In the last PY16-17, Iran exported 5.53 MnT of Semi-Finished and Finished Steel. The nation exported around 3.74 MnT of semi-finished and 1.79 MnT of finished steel last year.
