Iran: KSC Aims to Increase Production Capacity to 5 MnT Annually

Khouzestan Steel, one of the largest steel exporter in MENA was the largest exporter of steel from Iran during last Persian year (21 Mar'17-20 Mar'18). The company exported 2.76 MnT steel during the period, the company registered a growth of 46% Y-o-Y. The main product exported was bloom (1.11 MnT), followed by billet and slab with export volume as 0.82 MnT and 0.84 MnT respectively.
Recently Mr. Mohammad Keshani, CEO of Khouzestan Steel Company said in the opening ceremony of new unit that "KSC with nearly 40 years of production history is the second largest producer of semi-finished steel in the country, which managed to record a production of 3.76 MnT in last Persian year and exported 2.76 MnT to around 18 countries.
Referring to the investment of EURO 150 Mn in enhancing the capacity of sponge iron production Mr. Keshani added "One of the goals of the board over the past year was to increase production capacity from 2.3 MnT to 5 MnT. Today, we are witnessing the collagenization of the sponge iron plant (Zamzam 3) on the Khuzestan steel site.
KSC exported around 1,340,735 MT steel during the 7 months of current Persian year (21 Mar-22 Oct'18). The company registered a downfall of around 14% Y-o-Y. Standalone during the seventh month, export was noted to be around 143,005 down by 16% Y-o-Y. Major steel products exported by KSC during the seven months were Slab (591,348 MT), Bloom (413,356 MT) and Billet (346,780 MT).
