Iran: Finished steel production rises 11% y-o-y in first ten months of Persian year

Iran's steel production increased by 11% in the first ten months of the current Persian year (March, 2022-January, 2023), according to data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).

The country's steel production volumes continued to remain strong as electricity consumption restrictions were better managed this year as against the corresponding period last year (CPLY) due to the coordination between the Ministry of Energy and the steel association.

  • Total production of finished steel stood at 18.28 mnt in the period under review, higher by 11% y-o-y. Production of long and flat steel stood at 10.7 mnt (up 14%) and 7.58 mnt (up 8%), respectively.

  • Semi-finished steel output stood at 25.65 million tonnes (mnt) in the period under review, up 11% y-o-y. Billets and blooms accounted for 15.59 mnt of the total semis output, up 13% y-o-y, while slabs production increased by 6% y-o-y to 10.06 mnt.

  • As per ISPA data, direct reduced iron (DRI) production stood at 27.52 mnt in the first ten months of the Iranian year, an increase of 7% compared to the same period last year.
