Iran's steel production increased by 10% in the current Persian year (March, 2022-March, 2023), according to data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).
The country's steel production volumes continued to remain strong as electricity consumption restrictions were better managed this year as against the corresponding period last year (CPLY) due to the coordination between the Ministry of Energy and the steel association. However, the lack of gas in the winter season was a matter of concern this year.
- Total production of finished steel stood at 21.59 mnt in the period under review, higher by 10% y-o-y. Production of long and flat steel stood at 12.53 mnt (up 12%) and 9.06 mnt (up 8%), respectively.
- Semi-finished steel output stood at 30.43 mnt in the period under review, up 8% y-o-y. Billets and blooms accounted for 18.74 mnt of the total semis output, up 12% y-o-y, while slabs production increased by 4% y-o-y to 11.69 mnt.
- As per ISPA data, direct reduced iron (DRI) production stood at 31.73 mnt in the current Persian year, an increase of 5% compared to the same period last year.
