Iran's finished steel exports stood at 2.52 million tonnes (mnt) in the first nine months of the current Persian year (March-December, 2022). The volumes registered a marginal 2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Petrometals.
- Exports of long steel products were recorded at 2.20 mnt, a 9% y-o-y rise, while flat steel exports fell significantly by 30% y-o-y to 0.32 mnt.
- Exports of semi-finished steel (billets/blooms/slabs) totalled 5.18 mnt, stable, y-o-y.
- Direct reduced iron (DRI) exports were recorded at 0.63 mnt, a decrease of 28% compared to the same period last year.
Outlook
Iran's steel exports market is expected to remain under pressure as a reduction in gas supplies during harsh winters may result in a decline in production levels.
