Iran's finished steel exports in the first seven months of the current Persian year (March-October, 2022) stood at 1.78 million tonnes (mnt), registering a 4% fall compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).
- Exports of long products were recorded at 1.58 mnt, a y-o-y increase of 6%, while flat product exports fell sharply by 46% y-o-y to 0.20 mnt.
- Exports of billets and blooms totalled 2.82 mnt, up 4% y-o-y.
- Slab export volumes were recorded at 0.86 mnt, a decrease of 36% compared to the same period last year.
Outlook
Iranian steelmakers are looking to improve the market via exports but demand expectations are very limited owing to steep global inflation. Also, with winter approaching, the demand outlook may remain bearish.
