India: NMDC iron ore sales up 4%, production down 13% in Jul'20

NMDC total iron ore sales for the month of July'20 recorded at 2.57 mn t, up 4% as against 2.48 mn t in June'20. On yearly basis too, the sales picked by 7% as compared to 2.41 mn t in July'19. Tight iron ore availability in Odisha has resulted in improved demand from NMDC Chhattisgarh.

Out of the total sales in July'20, 74% contributed by Chhattisgarh at 1.9 mn t, up 4% on a monthly basis. The total sales from Karnataka mines stood at 0.67 mn t, up 3% against 0.65 mn t in June '20.

NMDC iron ore production fell 13% in July'20

NMDC iron ore production for the fourth month of the fiscal FY21 (July'20) was reported at 2.19 mn t. The output fell 13% on a monthly basis compared to 2.52 mn t in June'20. However, on a yearly basis output increased 12% compared to 1.95 mn t in July'19.

In July'20, NMDC C.G contributed a major chunk of production contributing about 71% at 1.56 mn t (down 16% M-o-M basis) and remaining 0.63 mn t produced by Karnataka mines, down by 5% m-o-m. Iron ore production from its Chhattisgarh mines was impacted for few days due to worker's strike.
