India's petcoke production sees slight rise, consumption grows strongly in Nov'24

India's domestic petcoke production in November 2024 reached 1.25 million tonnes (mnt), reflecting a marginal year-on-year increase of 0.3% from 1.25 mnt in November 2023 and a 3.6% month-on-month growth from 1.21 mnt in October 2024. Cumulatively, April-November 2024 production stood at 9.83 mnt, slightly declining by 0.4% compared to 9.87 mnt during the same period last year.

Petcoke accounted for 5.35% of total petroleum product output of 23.54 mnt in November and 5.27% of 186.37 mnt during April-November.

Consumption of petcoke in November surged to 1.80 mnt, registering a sharp 35.3% y-o-y growth from 1.33 mnt in November 2023 and a 6.3% m-o-m rise from 1.69 mnt in October. April-November consumption rose 9.2% to 13.85 mnt from 12.68 mnt in the same period last year.

Outlook

The production-consumption gap was mainly met through imports, with minor exports noted. Demand, driven by resumed post-monsoon infrastructure and cement activities, is expected to remain firm in the coming months.
