Indian Met Coke Imports Up by 64% in Apr'19

Indian metallurgical coke imports have shown tremendous growth of 64.8% in Apr'19. Met coke imports were recorded as 0.42 million tonnes (MnT) in Apr'19, as compared to 0.25 MnT in Mar'19, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

Moreover, on a Y-o-Y basis, Met Coke imports have also increased by 7.7% from 0.39 MnT which was recorded in the month of Apr'18.

Country Wise Indian Met Coke Import in Apr'19:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the shipments originated from China, accounting for 33% share.

Notably, Indian met coke imports from Columbia declined by around 40% M-o-M to 0.02 MnT in Apr'19, against 0.03 MnT in Mar'19.

Imports from Russia have also seen a tremendous increase of 346% M-o-M to 0.12 MnT in Apr'19, against 0.02 MnT in Mar'19. Russia contributed 31% of the share in total Indian met coke imports and remained the second largest country to exports met coke to India.

Met Coke imports from Poland which constituted 15% shares of totaled Indian Met coke imports have shown a slight increase of around 1% to 0.0.65 MnT in Apr'19 as compared to 0.064 MnT in Mar'19.

Imports from Japan have also seen an increase of 25% M-o-M to 0.06 MnT in Apr'19, against 0.04 MnT in Mar'19. Japan contributed 14% of the share in total Indian met coke imports.

Egypt constituted 2% shares of the Indian met coke imports in the month of Apr'19.
