Indian bulk pig iron exports recorded a significant jump in first ten months of 2017 against the same period last year. According to data maintained by SteelMint based on vessel line up at ports, Indian exports were recorded at 500,000 MT during Jan-Oct'17 which was 120,000 MT during Jan-Oct'16.
Indian pig iron exports have increased on account of high demand from South East Asian countries, which is a result of falling steel exports from China to these countries.
Thailand remained the largest buyer
Thailand remained the major buyer of Indian pig iron. Country imported 230,000 MT in 2017 (Till Oct), up by 130% Y-o-Y. followed by United States (70,000MT), Taiwan (40,000 MT), Bangladesh (30,000 MT) & Italy (30,000 MT).
MMTC has floated an export tender of 15,000 MT non-alloy Pig Iron on behalf of NINL. The due date for submission of bids is 14:30 hrs on 08 Nov'17.
