Indian Bar and Rod Production Decline by 11% M-o-M in Apr'17

As per the recent data released by the Joint Plant Commission, the total bar and rod production in Apr'17 declined by 11% to 2.79 MnT as compared to 3.13 MnT in Mar'17.
The production fell as there was continuous decline in domestic steel prices. In addition lull exports in semis by large producers have forced Indian steel manufacturers to decrease output.
In a month's duration the rebar prices by medium/small scale producers have declined up to INR 3,500/MT.
JSW, who emerged as the largest steel producer in FY 17 meeting the annual target of 15.75 MnT, registered a hike in the production in Apr'17 by 22% to 0.211 MnT.
However, other biggies like SAIL, RINL, Tata Steel and JSPL registered sharp fall in the production for the same duration.
In Apr'17, RINL registered the major drop in long steel production by 21% following SAIL (-17%), TATA (-9%) & JSPL (-8%), compared to Mar'17 production.
Similar fall in production being reported by medium/small steel makers about 10.7% to 1.83 MnT in Apr'17 as compared to 2.06 MnT in Mar'17.
