India: WCL Hikes Non-Coking Price by INR 450/MT

Western Coalfields Ltd, the subsidiary of CIL operating in Maharashtra, has revised the run-of mine (ROM) prices of non-coking coal produced from its 11 coal mines.

The company had increased the prices by INR 450/MT across the 17 applicable coal grades, from the previous revision that was carried out in Jan'18.

It is pertaining to note that WCL operates a total of 79 coal mines which have been grouped in 10 mining areas across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. However, the latest revision is applied specifically to the 11 mines falling under its Ballarpur, Majri, Nagpur, Umrer and Wani mining areas.

WCL highlighted that mine specific notified prices for all grades would imply to buyers of power and non-power sector with effect from 2 Nov'19, and the other elements of charges, taxes and levies would be the same as noted earlier.

Price of non-coking coal grades from G1 to G5 stand identical for power and non-power consumers, but are charged higher for the non-power consumers as we move down the table. Meanwhile, for G1 coal grade having a calorific value exceeding 7000 kCal/kg, the applied price would be increased by INR 100/MT over and above by every 100 kCal/kg increase over G2 grade.

WCL's Performance in FY20: WCL coal production had witnessed a modest growth to 21.62 MnT in the first 7 months of FY20 (Apr-Oct'19), as against 21.37 MnT recorded in the year-ago period. Coal dispatch in the same period has fallen 8% Y-o-Y to 27.44 MnT.

The company has attained the 50 MnT production and dispatch mark for the first time in FY19.
