India: OMC Chrome Ore Dispatches increased significantly in Sep'19 as Chrome ore availability Improved

Dispatches of Chrome Ore by Odisha miners have increased by almost 58% in Sep'19 against Aug'19. Dispatches remained highly affected due to the strike in the Jajpur area in the month of Aug'19. Due to this, many Ferro Chrome producers were out of stock in the following month and thus, the auctions received an overwhelming response.
TATA Steel remained the largest miner to dispatch 109,275 MT of Chrome Ore in Sep'19 which is 105% high as compared to the previous month. Dispatches remained affected throughout aug in the Sukinda region, but in the later period of Aug, dispatches completely stopped for a short duration. TATA Steel held 6% of the total quantity for captive use. Meanwhile, 18,095MT quantity was dispatched to Jindal Stainless. Dispatches were significantly high for Jindal Stainless, Nava Bharat Ventures, Aarti Steels, and Tirumala Balaji Alloys.
Dispatches of OMC also increased by 51% in Sep'19 against Aug'19 with a total quantity of 87,499MT. Jindal Stainless and Shyam Metalics and Energy were the two major companies to buy OMC Chrome Ore. Jindal Stainless accounted for 33% of the total OMC Chrome ore dispatches with 29,177MT quantity. Shyam Metalics & Energy accounted for 10% of the total OMC Chrome ore dispatches in Sep'19 with 8,852MT quantity.
Dispatches of IMFA increased significantly from 57,782MT in Aug'19 to 87,499MT in Sep'19. Dispatches from Balasore Alloys remained uniform with 11,829MT quantity in Sep'19. Misirlal Mines and IDCOL dispatches were discontinued as the mines are up for the upcoming auctions.
SteelMint assessed that this overwhelming response was mainly due to the discontinuation of dispatches in the previous month and scarcity of raw material to continue operations for Ferro Chrome Producers.
