India: Odisha's Iron Ore Dispatches Increased Marginally in Dec'17

Serajuddin Mines iron ore dispatches fell by 54% as the miners were not much actively offering material and went off operations as it failed to pay penalty as directed by Honorable Supreme Court.

Odisha, India's largest iron ore producing state recorded marginal increase of 2% in iron Ore dispatches in Dec'17 to 6.06 MnT against 5.96 MnT in Nov'17. However, the Y-o-Y dispatches recorded an increase of 12% in Dec'17 as against 5.42 MnT in Dec'16. The figures exclude movement for export and dispatches of captive miner- SAIL & Tata Steel.

During the first nine months of FY'18 (Apr-Dec), Odisha recorded an increase of 14% in iron ore dispatches to 52.89 MnT as against 46.3 MnT in the same period last year FY'17.

Among Odisha's merchant iron ore miners - Rungta Mines dispatched highest quantity of ore 1.80 MnT followed by OMC 0.63 MnT and KJS Ahluwalia 0.50 MnT.

Rungta Mines - India's largest private merchant miner's, dispatches recorded an increase of 20% to 1.80 MnT in Dec'17 as compared to Nov'17 which was at 1.49 MnT.

Dispatches from Serajuddin Mines decreased sharply of 54% M-o-M iron ore dispatches in Dec'17 at 0.42 MnT as against 0.92 MnT in Nov'17. KJS Ahluwalia recorded a decline of 16% M-o-M in Dec'17 to 0.50 MnT as against 0.60 MnT in Nov'17.

Iron ore dispatches from state-owned miner- OMC were recorded at 0.63 MnT in Dec'17, an increase of 14% M-o-M as against 0.55 MnT in Nov'17.

Earlier in last month five working iron ore mines including Serajuddin Mines, MESCO have gone out of operations as they failed to shell out the penalties mandated by the Supreme Court. Closure of these mines means a deficit of 20 million tonnes in annual mining capacity. Dispatches from the state may decline in Jan'18 following the closure of few major mines.
