India: Odisha Iron Ore Production Up 35% in Apr'19

Odisha - India's largest iron ore producing state recorded an increase of iron ore production in the 1st month of the current fiscal year. Production in Apr'19 stood at 12.45 MnT. Production moved up sharply by 35% for Apr'19 as against 9.21 MnT in Mar'19, according to the provisional data of Odisha Govt. maintained by SteelMint. The figures include the type of material - fines, lump, and concentrate.

Many merchant miners who had already utilized their EC limit for FY19 remained inactive for production in Mar'19. However, in Apr'19, miners resumed production which resulted in an increase in production on monthly premises.

Rungta Mines - India's largest private merchant miner produced 2.48 MnT iron ore in Apr'19. The production recorded an increase of 6% against 2.34 MnT in Mar'19.

Essel Mining and Industries has shown a sharp increase in iron ore production for Apr'19 at 0.96 MnT, increasing nearly three times as compared to 0.36 MnT in Mar'19. The miner has continuously increased its production at its Jilling Langalota mines after it received permission from Supreme Court in Feb'18. Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) - a state-owned miner has achieved an increase in its iron ore production almost nearer to three-time for Apr'19 to 1.39 MnT as against 0.51 MnT in last month.

Serajuddin has recorded an iron ore production at 1.04 MnT, down 14% for Apr'19 as compared to 1.21 MnT in Mar'19. Amongst captive miners, Tata Steel's iron ore production stood at 1.24 MnT (Up 11%) and SAIL at 0.78 MnT (down 26%) for Apr19.
