Odisha, India's largest iron ore producing state, recorded output of the raw material at 10.77 million tonnes (mnt) in Jan'22 as against 10.14 mnt in Dec'21, according to provisional data from the Odisha government maintained with SteelMint. The figures include fines, lumps and concentrates.
However, the output slipped by 15% y-o-y as compared to 12.40 mnt in Jan'21.
Key highlights
- OMC, the state-owned miner, emerged as the leading producer of iron ore in the state at 3.04 mnt in Jan'22 as against 1.83 mnt in Dec'21. The output increased sharply by 66%, m-o-m. Additional volumes from Apahatu quarry of Jilling mines and ramp up of operations at existing mines seem to have added to the production volumes.
- Tata Steel stood as the second-highest producer at 1.52 mnt in January. However, the output fell by 7% m-o-m when compared to 1.64 mnt in Dec'21.
- JSW Steel recorded a significant 45% fall in production to 1.26 mnt for Jan'22 as against 2.31 mnt in Dec'21.
- Rungta Mines' output stood at 1.20 mnt for the month, a sharp rise of 71% m-o-m as against 0.70 mnt in Dec'21.
- SAIL's iron ore production decreased to 1.10 mnt in Jan'22 as compared to 1.23 mnt in Dec'21.
- AM/NS India registered a 10% increase in iron ore production to 0.85 mnt in Jan'22 as against 0.77 mnt in Dec'21.
- JSPL's iron ore production stood at 0.49 mnt in Jan'22, a whopping 96% m-o-m increase when compared to 0.25 mnt in the previous month.
