India: Odisha iron ore production inches up in Nov'21

Odisha, India's largest iron ore producing state, recorded output of iron ore at 10.09 million tonnes (mn t) in Nov'21, up 2% m-o-m against 9.92 mn t in Oct'21, according to provisional data from the Odisha government maintained with SteelMint. The figures include fines, lumps and concentrate. Production started gaining momentum after the end of monsoon.

However, the output slipped by 5% y-o-y as compared to 10.64 mn t in Nov'20.

Highlights

  • JSW Steel remained the leading producer of iron ore in the state at 2.21 mn t in Nov'21 as against 2.34 mn t in Oct'21.

  • OMC, the state-owned miner, stood as the second-highest producer at 2.14 mn t for November. The output increased by 14% m-o-m, which could be due to positive responses received in its past auctions which resulted in improved offtake supporting production volumes.

  • Tata Steel recorded a 3% fall in production to 1.29 mn t for Nov'21 as against 1.34 mnt in Oct'21.

  • Rungta Mines' output stood at 1.07 mn t for the month, up 18% m-o-m against 0.9 mn t in Oct'21.

  • Production of iron ore from AM/NS decreased to 0.5 mn t in Nov'21, as compared to 0.57 mn t in Oct'21.

  • JSPL's iron ore production remained stable at 0.16 mn t in Nov'21. Although the company initiated the inaugural ceremony at its Kasia iron ore mine block in end-Nov'21, due to some local issues, production volumes are yet to pick up, as per sources.
