India: Odisha Iron Ore Production Fell 21% in Q2 FY18 Amid Monsoon

In H1 FY18, state's iron ore production was recorded at 46.57 MnT, up 11% Y-o-Y
India's largest iron ore producing state - Odisha which contributes nearly 50% share in country's iron ore production. On quarterly basis, states iron ore production decreased by 21% Q-o-Q to 20.58 MnT in Q2 FY'18 against 25.98 MnT Q1 FY18. Increased rainfall during monsoons resulted in fall in iron ore production levels.
Odisha's iron ore production has increased by 19% Y-o-Y in Q2 FY'18, as it was 17.32 MnT in Q2 FY17.
However, 9% rise was registered in its monthly iron ore production in Sept'17. The state has produced 7.49 MnT iron ore in Sep'17 against 6.87 MnT in Aug'17.
On yearly premises, Odisha iron ore production has increased this fiscal. In H1 FY'18 production of iron ore was up 11% Y-o-Y to 46.57 MnT against 42.08 MnT in the same period H1 FY'17.
Merchant mines iron ore output - Odisha's largest iron ore producer registered an output of 1.91 MnT in Sept'17, up 26% M-o-M. Other major merchant iron ore producers were KJS Ahluwalia - 0.76 MnT (up 27% M-o-M), and Serajuddin Mines - 0.63 MnT (down by 29% M-o-M).
State-owned miner - Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) produced 0.03 MnT iron ore in Sept'17, same compared to the last month Aug'17.
Major Captive iron ore miners - Tata Steel's iron ore production from Odisha stood at 0.95 MnT in Sept'17 (up 12% M-o-M) and that of SAIL was recorded at 0.61 MnT (up 7% M-o-M).
