India: Odisha Govt Announces Relief Measures for Industrial Electricity Consumption

The Odisha government has deferred demand charges on electricity consumption for industrial units, SteelMint learned from its sources.

Following are the relief announced today as per the notice issued by Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission:

-- All the consumers having contract demand (CD) of 110 KVA and above during the months of April & May shall be billed on the basis of their actual demand drawn.

-- Consumers who will be drawing less than 80% of their CD during April and May shall be billed of their differential demand charges (i.e demand to be billed as per tariff order- demand now billed) in the bill of June and July.

-- And the consumer having CD below 110 KVA shall be billed as per the regulation and tariff order.

Furthermore, the industrial charges for mid scale mills reported at INR 5.70-6.00/unit, which varies according to the load/power consumption. Sources mentioned that, about 90-95% steel mills are closed currently due to imposed lock-down in India, however there are assumptions that most of plants may resume operations soon.

There are about 180 steel mills in Odisha including BF, EA, Induction furnaces, rolling mills, sponge iron, pellet & ferro industries.The average installed capacity of Ingot/billet/bloom in Odisha learned about 53,000 MT daily basis, including those of integrated plants.
