India: Odisha government approves Utkal Alumina, Hindalco expansion plans

The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) of Odisha has given approval to 11 projects with a total investment of INR 2,841 crore. These projects are expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 3,721 people.

Apart from the aluminum and steel sectors, the projects approved at the SLSWCA meeting encompass a diverse range of industries such as chemicals, plastics, food processing and packaging, textiles and apparel, tourism, and renewable energy.

Additionally, the expansion proposals for Utkal Alumina International in Rayagada district and Hindalco Industries at Lapanga in Sambalpur district, were granted approval. These two projects are estimated to create approximately 500 job opportunities and attract investments amounting to INR 1,000 crore.

Notably, RCR Steel Works received the go-ahead for an INR 896.98 crore steel plant in Jamda, which is expected to provide employment for 750 people. Another approved project is the fabric processing plant by Ion Exchange (India) with an investment of INR 100 crore, which also aims to create substantial job opportunities.
