The Odisha Government has decided to have a single Director for both Mining and Geology. The position will henceforth be occupied by a person from the Indian Administrative Services or the Indian Forest Service to which belongs the current Director of Mines, G Rajesh.
This reorganisation of the state's richest department is to allow greater supervision and better coordination between the two wings of Geology and Mining, explained a press release. The two wings will merge to form a composite Directorate of Mines & Geology with one Director, assisted by four Additional Directors (AD), one each for Mining, Geology, Administration and Finance.
The position of Additional Director, Mining and Additional Director, Geology will be served by the respective cadres. Administrative responsibilities will be entrusted to a person from the state administrative service (OAS) and Finance, to an officer of the Odisha Finance Service.
