India: Iron ore production, dispatches at NMDC affected due to nationwide strike

Thousands of workers from state-owned SAIL, RINL and NMDC have joined the nationwide strike on 28 Mar'22 and continued to boycott work on the second day as well.

As per SteelMint reports, this ongoing strike has impacted iron ore production and dispatches at NMDC's Chhattisgarh and Karnataka units. Dispatches through rakes remained hit yesterday from both the states, however, road movements continued.

All non-executive NMDC workers have boycotted work as part of the ongoing strike to join the nationwide protest. As per reports, over 10,000 non-executive employees of the company are observing the protest at NMDC mines and offices in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.

India's largest iron ore miner recorded a cumulative iron ore output of 37.18 million tonnes (mnt) in Apr'21-Feb'22, achieving a growth of 26% as against 29.52 mnt in the corresponding period last year (CPLY). The total production from Chhattisgarh mines stood at 26.27 mnt and the remaining 10.91 mnt was from its Karnataka mines.

On the other hand, cumulative iron ore sales during Apr'21-Feb'22 stood at 36.57 mnt, a y-o-y rise of 25% as compared to 29.15 mnt in the same period last year.
