India: Iron Ore Movement Down 9% M-o-M in Apr'17

As per SteelMint's analysis, iron ore movement across major producing states of the country was recorded at 10.57 MnT in Apr'17 which was at 11.61 MnT in Mar'17. The figures are compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, Karnataka and Goa e-auction data and import data as per customs. The figures indicated do not include the captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel and movement for exports.State-wise iron ore movement analysis:
Iron ore dispatches from Odisha down 2% M-o-M in Apr'17 - Compared with the previous month Odisha iron ore dispatches fell 2% M-o-M from 5.83 MnT in Mar'17 to 5.72 MnT in Apr'17. Among Odisha's merchant iron ore miners - Rungta Mines dispatched highest quantity of ore followed by Serajuddin Mines and Kaypee Enterprises. Iron ore dispatch by Odisha based merchant mines grew marginally by 0 .54% in Apr'17 and was recorded at 5.56 MnT against 5.53 MnT in Mar'17.
Chhattisgarh iron ore movement at 1.79 MnT - Iron ore movement from Chhattisgarh fell from 1.83 MnT in Mar'17 to 1.79 MnT in Apr'17. NMDC in total supplied 340 rakes of iron ore from its Bailadila mines in Chhattisgarh last month against 358 rakes in Mar'17. Thus NMDC's iron ore supply from Bailadila mines has gone down by 5% M-o-M in Apr'17.
Karnataka iron ore e-auction sales at 2.04 MnT in Apr'17 - Iron ore sales via Karnataka e-auctions stood at 2.04 MnT in Apr'17 down 26% M-o-M. NMDC sold 1.4 MnT iron ore via e-auctions. JSW Steel remained the largest buyer at 1.32 MnT followed by BMM Ispat.
Indian iron ore imports decreased in Apr'17 - India imported 0.28 MnT iron ore in Apr'17 compared to 0.43 MnT in previous month. JSW Steel was the largest importer in Apr'17 at 0.16 MnT followed by KIOCL. Pellet imports to India remained nil in Apr'17.
Iron ore and Pellet exports from India down in Apr'17 - Indian iron ore exports moved down and stood at 3.04 MnT in Apr'17, down 25% M-o-M. Vedanta was the largest exporter at 0.78 MnT followed by Fomento Resources and V M Salgaonkar. Indian pellet exports which were recorded at 0.75 MnT in Mar'17 decreased to 0.49 MnT in Apr'17. Essar Steel was the largest exporter with 0.16 MnT pellets followed by BRPL with the quantity of 0.12 MnT.
