Indian Iron Ore Imports at 287,500 MT in Apr'19

Indian iron ore imports in Apr'19 have been recorded at 287,500 MT, according to the data maintained by SteelMint, Indian iron ore imports witnessed marginal decline for the month compared to 289,258 MT in Mar'19.

However, on yearly basis, imports fell 70% as compared to 969,190 MT in Apr'18.

JSW Steel imported 0.19 MnT iron ore in Apr'19

India's major steel maker- JSW stood the largest importer for the month of Apr'19 at 0.19 MnT as against being nil a month before. Imports were done mostly from Australia and South Africa. Other importers were Chowgule and Company at 0.06 MT and Welspun Steel at 0.04 MT.

Australia turned out to be the largest iron ore exporter to India

For the month of Apr'19, Australia stood the largest iron ore exporter to India at 0.19 MnT and Brazil marked second highest iron ore exporter at 0.06 MnT.

Imports from South Africa dropped to 85% at 0.04 MnT in Apr'19 as against being 0.29 MnT a month ago.

As per data maintained with SteelMint South African import prices in Apr'19 were witnessed at USD 125/MT, CFR India.

Port-wise Indian iron ore imports-: Jaigarh port contributed the largest share of imports at 0.19 MnT as against being nil a month before. Mormugao stood second largest importer at 0.06 MnT followed by Kandla at 0.04 MnT (down 75%).
