India: Imported pet coke prices edge up w-o-w
...
Prices of imported pet coke (6.5% S) in the international market edged up w-o-w resulting in a hike in imported offers to India. Current prices are in the range of $108-109/t CFR west coast India and $110-111/t CFR east coast India.
Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has decreased prices of raw petroleum coke (RPC) by up to INR 1,090/t with effect from 12 July, 2024.
Barauni raw pet coke (RPC) with high ash content is priced separately at INR 19,904/t which is down by INR 464/t from INR 20,368/t since the last revision. Notably, this high-ash RPC price is linked to the current Grade 'A' RPC price at Barauni with a discount factor of 20%.
There is a quality differential of INR 500/t for each grade. The price of base Grade B is the lowest, and price of Grade A is higher by INR 500/t. The price of Premium Grade is higher by INR 500/t compared to Grade A.
Of late, the quality of Barauni has also deteriorated due to increase in sulphur because of increased processing of imported high sulphur crude.
Notably, Koyali is considered inferior quality and earlier used to be lower than Barauni. But there is no regular sale/production of RPC at Koyali and it is available only for a few months. Sulphur in RPC at Bongaigaon has gradually increased due to use of imported crude. It has increased up to 1.1/1.2%, which used to be less than 1%, i.e. around 0.8%. sulphur in Barauni has also increased which may sometimes be even more than 2% which used to be 1.5%/1.8%.
