India, being one of the prominent exporters of Ferro Alloy, has exported 1.03 MnT of the commodity in CY17 (Jan-Jul) against 0.68 MnT during the same period of the previous year. It reflected a substantial increase of more than 50% on Y-o-Y basis.
In Ferro Chrome, India's largest export category, about half of the production is exported. India exported 0.47 MnT Ferro Chrome in CY17 (Jan-Jul) against 0.24 MnT in CY16 (Jan-Jul), registering a massive increase of 74% Y-o-Y. China accounted for 40% (0.19 MnT) of Indian Ferro Chrome export volume in CY17 (Jan-Jul), followed by South Korea at 23% (0.11 MnT) and Taiwan at 13% (0.06 MnT). India also exports Silico Manganese majorly and out of 0.44 MnT of exported volume in CY17 (Jan-Jul), Japan accounted for largest share of Indian exports at 13% (0.06 MnT), closely followed by UAE at 8.26% (0.04 MnT) of the exported volume by India. However, during CY16 (Jan-Jul), Silico Manganese export by India was 0.34 MnT, reportedly 29% lower, with Japan being the largest importer as well.
Ferro Manganese is also exported by India but at a limited quantity of 0.11 MnT in CY17 (Jan-Jul). It is around 38% higher than the volume exported in the same period of CY16. Ferro Manganese production requires high-grade Manganese Ore - which India relies heavily on the seaborne material.
