India Coking Coal Import Up 39% in Oct'18, Imports from USA Jump 64%

India's metallurgical coal imports have registered a growth of 39.6% to 4.41 million tonnes (MnT) in Oct'18, as compared to 3.16 MnT in Sep'18, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

However, on a year-on-year basis, the Oct'18 imports have been fairly close to 4.46 MnT of imports recorded in Oct'17.

On a year-to-date basis, India's coking coal imports have totaled 42.99 MnT in the first ten months of the year, during Jan'18-Oct'18, slightly up (2.35%) from 42.00 MnT of coking coal imports in the corresponding period of the previous year, Jan'17-Sep'17.

Country Wise India Coking Coal Import in Oct'18:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the Indian coking coal import shipments continued to be originated from Australia, constituting the highest share of around 81%.

Also, Indian met coal imports from Australia rose by 27.1% to 3.58 MnT in Oct'18, against 2.82 MnT in Sep'18.

Following Australia, the imports from USA accounted for 7% share.

More importantly, Indian coking coal imports from USA surged by a whopping 64.2% to 0.30 MnT in Oct'18, against 0.18 MnT in Sep'18.

Imports from Mozambique increased by 32.8% to 0.20 MnT in Oct'18, against 0.15 MnT in Sep'18.
