India Coking Coal Import Down 2.1% M-o-M in Nov'18, Imports from USA Drop 34.7%

India's metallurgical coal imports have fallen slightly by 2.08% to 4.32 million tonnes (MnT) in Nov'18, as compared to 4.41 MnT in Oct'18, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

However, on a year-on-year basis, the Nov'18 imports have risen by 4.27% against 4.14 MnT of imports recorded in Nov'17.

Moreover, on a year-to-date basis, India's coking coal imports have totaled 47.31 MnT in the first eleven months of this year, during Jan'18-Nov'18, slightly up by 2.51% from 46.15 MnT of coking coal imports in the corresponding period of the previous year, Jan'17-Nov'17.

Country Wise India Coking Coal Import in Nov'18:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the Indian coking coal import shipments continued to be originated from Australia, constituting the highest share of around 84%.

Also, Indian met coal imports from Australia rose by 1.5% to 3.63 MnT in Nov'18, against 3.58 MnT in Oct'18.

Following Australia, the imports from USA accounted for 5% share.

Notably however, Indian coking coal imports from USA dropped by 34.7% to 0.19 MnT in Nov'18, against 0.30 MnT in Oct'18.

Strikingly, imports from Canada increased by 86.4% to 0.28 MnT in Nov'18, against 0.15 MnT in Oct'18.

Simultaneously, imports from Mozambique decreased by 23.2% to 0.15 MnT in Nov'18, against 0.20 MnT in Oct'18.
