India: CIL achieves over 6% growth in coal output during Apr-Jul'24

Coal India Limited (CIL), a Maharatna company and the largest coal-producing company in the world, has released its provisional production and offtake performance data for July 2024.

Production highlights

In July, CIL achieved a substantial increase in coal production compared to the same period last year. The company's total coal production for the month reached 55 million tonnes (mnt), representing a 2.5% growth y-o-y. This remarkable increase is attributed to enhanced mining operations and strategic planning across its subsidiaries.

Cumulative production for the period from April-July 2024 stands at 244.3 mnt, reflecting a 6.6% rise over the corresponding period in 2023. The continuous improvement in production capabilities showcases CIL's commitment to meeting the growing energy demand of the nation.

Offtake performance

Coal offtake, a critical indicator of market demand and supply efficiency, showed a positive trend in July. Total coal dispatches for the month were 59.6 mnt, indicating a marginal increase compared to July 2023. The improvement in offtake performance highlights CIL's effective supply chain management and its ability to cater to the needs of key sectors such as power, steel, and cement.

In April-July 2024, total offtake reached 257.2 mnt, demonstrating a 4.4% growth over the same period last year. This upward trajectory in offtake is aligned with India's economic growth and the rising demand for coal-based energy solutions.
