India: Chrome Ore Production fell by 11% in Apr'19

Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome Ore Production in Apr'19 was noted to be 420,340MT. It is lower than the previous month's production viz., Mar'19 by 11%.

Production level by Captive miners remained stable as compared to the previous month in Apr'19. Balasore Alloys contributed the highest amount in the production of Chrome Ore, amongst the Captive mines in India. However, the production was higher as compared to the previous month in Apr'19 by 29%. Meanwhile Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) decreased their production by significant levels. However, Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited(FACOR) increased their production levels by 12% in Apr'19 M-o-M.

Production levels by Merchant miners were lowered down from 476,365MT in Mar'19 to 420,340MT in Apr'19 which accounted for 12% downtrend. Misrilall Mines and TATA Steel in together contributed to approximately 67% of the total Chrome Ore Production by India in Apr'19. Misrilall Mines increased its production levels significantly to 158,635MT. Production for TATA Steel stood at 152,191MT which was inched up by 2%.

Misrilall Mines and TATA Steel, however, remained the largest miners in Apr'19. Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) remained the third largest merchant Miner with 57,576MT production in FY19. Meanwhile, production cuts in IMFA and OMC were observed by 12% and 78% respectively. However, B.C. Mohanty & Sons decreased their production levels by 10%.

Total Production by Captive miners remained at 46,579MT in FY19 and for Merchant miners are at 420,340MT.
