Steel major ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) recorded iron ore and pellets sourcing of 1.29 million tonnes (mn t) in Aug'21, an increase of 5% against 1.23 mn t seen in Jul'21. The company's captive iron ore sourcing from Odisha was recorded at 511,203 tonnes (t) in Aug'21 as against 382,509 t in Jul'21.
Iron ore procurement from NMDC (Chhattisgarh) down 24% in Aug'21: The steelmaker procured 568,000 t of iron ore in Aug'21 from NMDC's Bailadila mines (Chhattisgarh) via slurry pipeline, against 745,000 t in Jul'21.
Sourcing from Odisha merchant mines up in Aug'21: The company has sourced 206,053 t of iron ore from Odisha's merchant mines in Aug'21 as against 101,878 t in the previous month.
Out of the total iron ore sourced from Odisha's merchant mines in Aug'21, the largest share was contributed by Rungta Mines at 102,817 t followed by Indrani Patnaik at 22,780 t.
The company recorded nil imports for the month, according to customs data maintained with SteelMint.

- AM/NS India commenced mining operations at Ghoraburhani-Sagasahi iron ore block in Odisha on 9 Sept'21. The mine has an EC limit of 7.16 mn t/year and 99.59 mn t of iron ore reserves spread over an area of 139.165 hectares in Sundergarh district. The company expects to produce 2 mn t of ore in this calendar year.
- The company has announced the commissioning of its second pellet plant with a capacity of 6 million tonne per annum (mnt pa) at Paradip, Odisha. The plant doubled production capacity to 12 mn t, making it the largest single-location pelletisation complex in the country. With this, AM/NS India's national pelletisation capacity rose to 20 mn t pa.
