Germany's zinc imports were recorded at 40,326 tonnes (t) in November 2022, down by 48% m-o-m as against 78,213 t in October. The significant reason for the decline in imports is the rise of manufacturing index of Germany m-o-m in November, 2022.
The import volumes were also down by 65% y-o-y from 115,668 t in November 2022, as per Customs data maintained with SteelMint.
Sub-commodity wise imports:
- Ores/concentrates fell sharply by 99% m-o-m to 257 t in November as compared against the volumes in October which were 40,294 t.
- Imports of semi-finished products went up by 7% m-o-m to 37,480 t in November from 34,982 t in October.
- Finished products recorded a decline of 12% m-o-m to 2,589 t in November 2022 from 2,937 t in October 2022.
Country-wise imports:

- Imports from Finland up: Finland was the largest exporter of zinc to Germany with 9,966 t in November, up by 33% m-o-m from 7,479 t in October. In contrast, the imports were up by 32% y-o-y in November 2022 as compared against November 2021.
- Imports from Spain drop: Spain was the second largest exporter at 6,911 t, down by 37% m-o-m in November as compared against October which was around 10,957 t. Similarly, y-o-y the imports dipped by 13% from 7,901 t in November, 2021.
- Shipments from the Netherlands surge: The Netherlands exported 5,453 t of zinc to Germany in November, up by 53% m-o-m from 3,554 t in October. In the same line, imports in November, 2021 were at 3,441 t, increased by 58% in November, 2022.
- Imports from Finland up: Finland was the largest exporter of zinc to Germany with 9,966 t in November, up by 33% m-o-m from 7,479 t in October. In contrast, the imports were up by 32% y-o-y in November 2022 as compared against November 2021.
