Czech Republic: Ferrous Scrap Exports Marginally Down in Nov'18

Czech Republic - one of the major scrap exporters among Eu-28 witnessed a marginal fall in scrap exports in Nov'18. As per recent customs data, Czech Republic exported 190,087 MT ferrous scrap in Nov'18, down 6% M-o-M as against 201,194 MT in Oct'18.

On yearly premises, scrap exports declined marginally by 6% Y-o-Y as against 201,152 MT ferrous scrap in Nov'17. Notably, ferrous scrap exports from the Czech Republic in Oct'18 were recorded 1 year high.

Country's scrap exports could have slowed down in Nov'18 ahead of the seasonal slowdown and lowered collection rates towards year-end.

Germany remained the largest importer in Nov'18 - Germany remained the largest importer occupying highest 44% share (83,528 MT, down 4% M-o-M) in total scrap exports in Nov'18. Followed by other major importers like Poland (41,162 MT, -15% M-o-M), Italy (27,584 MT, -25% M-o-M), Austria (21,649 MT, +47% M-o-M) and Slovakia (12,599 MT, +5% M-o-M) occupying 22%, 15%, 11% and 7% share respectively in Nov'18.

Country's total finish long steel exports decreased to 160,698 MT (- 3% M-o-M) in Nov'18. On the other hand, finish flat imports stood almost stable at 364,852 MT and finish long imports fall 7% M-o-M to 108,291 MT in Nov'18.

Crude steel production - As per WSA, crude steel production recorded at 390,309 MT in Nov'18 as against 375,496 MT in Oct'18.

Scrap exports stable during Jan-Nov'18 - Czech Republic exported 1,973,206 MT ferrous scrap during Jan-Nov'18 witnessing stability as against 1,970,279 MT during the same period last year. The country produced 4.53 MnT crude steel during Jan-Nov'18, up 9% as against 4.17 MnT crude steel produced during the same period last year.

The Czech Republic is the world's 20th largest steel importer with largest steel producer ArcelorMittal Ostrava followed by Trinecke Zelezarny, Vitkovice Steel, ZDB Dratovna majorly based in the Moravian region of the country.

Czech Republic eyes strategic partnership with India - According to reports, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis wants to promote his country's relations with India to a strategic partnership. A special seminar titled 'Czech Republic - Prospective Technological Partner of India on the Path to Common Prosperity' took place recently at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in Gandhinagar.

Czech companies primarily export automobiles, energy devices and machinery to India, while imports from the Asian sub-continent include iron, steel, textiles and spare parts for cars and tractors.
