Major Coal Importers from Colombia in Feb'20:
Turkey, Mexico, Chile, Israel and Netherlands were the top five coal receiving countries from Colombia in the month of February 2020.
Turkey's coal imports from Colombia, its largest supplier, stood at 2.01 MnT in Feb'20, down 49% from its recent all-time high of 3.95 MnT in Jan'20.
Notably, Colombian coal exports to Turkey had surged by a whopping 83% on the month in January, from 2.16 MnT in December 2019.
Turkish thermal coal imports had risen in January as a shortfall in lignite-fired generation capacity underpinned demand for higher-quality foreign material.
Colombia has remained the preferred destination for coal buyers in Turkey. Colombian coal is more competitive than Russian material on the Turkish market because of lower freight rates -- Colombian suppliers can use Capesize vessels, while Russian exporters ship coal on handysize vessels from the Black Sea, coasters from the Azov Sea and Panamaxes from Baltic ports.
Colombian coal receipts by Mexico dropped by 16.7% M-o-M to 1.15 MnT in Feb'20, as compared to 1.38 MnT in the month ago.
Chile emerged as the third-largest coal importer from Colombia during the month of February with imports of 0.82 MnT, despite recording a monthly fall of 16.7% from 0.98 MnT in Jan'20.
