CIL Aims 710 MnT Coal Production in FY21
...
CIL has set a target of 710 MnT coal production in the current fiscal, 50 MnT more than that was fixed in the previous fiscal.
The miner has been unable to attain its annual target in recent times, mainly because of issues pertaining to forest and environmental clearances, evacuation constraints, and local law and order problems.
Adding further woes to its operational performance, series of torrential rain last fiscal had resulted in first Y-o-Y decline in CIL's production over a period of two decades.
However, in order to reduce import dependency of the country, CIL's production target has been kept higher.
Out of the total volume in FY21, CIL has intended to produce bulk of 678.99 MnT coal from its opencast projects. While, remaining quantity of 31.01 MnT has been assigned for under-ground mines, which is kept close to the actual production of 30.036 MnT attained in FY20.
Subsidiary-wise Production Target:
SECL was the major impacted subsidiary during the inclement weather, but had managed to gross highest coal production in FY20. The company has been assigned 183 MnT coal production for FY21.
Second largest producer-MCL's target has been affixed at 173 MnT, 10 MnT lower than that of SECL's.
WCL and NCL were the two subsidiaries which had attained their respective production targets in FY20. Their production target are noted at 62 MnT and 113.25 MnT in FY21.
Not all the coal producing units were tasked with higher target from the previous fiscal. Apparently, CIL's least coal producing unit-NECL's target has been slashed by 20% Y-o-Y to 0.6 MnT in FY21. The company had produced 0.52 MnT coal in FY20.
