China's State Council tasks work for emission cuts by 2025

China's State Council, the country's top administrative body, has assigned work to over 30 ministries, bureaus and regulatory bodies including the National Development and Reform Committee, the People's Bank of China, and the Ministry of Justice, to fulfil the series of targets in resources conservation, pollution control and emission cuts by 2025, according to the shortened version of the notice shared on gov.cn on January 24.

The notice is not to release more targets, but to draw out the detailed execution plan for the series of guidelines China has issued so far on its quality development plans during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), with the workload involving the aspects of agriculture, industrial production, civil engineering, public transport, and logistics services.

Other than the key targets highlighted in the January 6 report (link to the story: https://www.mysteel.net/article/5027815/Chinas-economic-industrial-development-targets-by-2025.html), China will also aims to complete rectifying 530 million tonnes/year steelmaking capacities and all the coal-fuelled boilers in the seriously polluted areas to realize ultra-low emission by 2025, Mysteel Global noted from the notice.

Besides, by 2025, coal consumption in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and neighbouring area are requested to be reduced by 10%, that in the Yangtze River Delta area to be cut by 5%, and Fenwei Plains should decrease coal consumption too.

Moreover, water consumption per Yuan 10,000 ($1,580) industrial added-value should be reduced by 16% from 2020, and waste water treatment in the rural area should reach 40%, both by 2025.
