China's Iron Ore Imports from Brazil Down 5% in Dec'17

Recent trade statistics released by Brazil Customs show that the country has exported 32.77 MnT iron ore in Dec'17. The exports witnessed a marginal decline of 4% M-o-M in Dec'17 as against 34.15 MnT in Nov'17. On Y-o-Y basis, iron ore exports from Brazil recorded a decline of 7% in Dec'17 as compared to Dec'16 which was stood at 35.12 MnT.

Out of total 32.77 MnT iron ore exported by Brazil in Dec'17, 30.04 MnT was iron ore which witnessed a decline of 5% M-o-M against 31.61 MnT in Nov'17. Remaining 2.73 MnT quantity exported in Dec'17 was pellets, up 7% M-o-M against 2.54 MnT in Nov'17.

China's iron ore import from Brazil decline marginally in Dec'17 -: China, the largest iron ore importer of Brazilian iron ore, imported around 62% of total Brazilian iron ore exports in Dec'17 via sea route, followed by Japan 1.83 MnT, Malaysia 1.56 MnT, and Portugal 1.37 MnT. China's iron ore imports from Brazil have come down marginally by 5% from 19.45 MnT in Nov'17 to 18.53 MnT in Dec'17.

Vale iron ore exports fall 6% in Dec'17

Vale, the world's largest iron ore producer exported around 88% of iron ore via sea route of the total Brazil exports. In Dec'17, the miner exported 26.34 MnT iron ore via sea route, CSN -2.30 MnT, and Anglo American - 1.22 MnT.

Iron ore exports from Vale have come down by 6% M-o-M in Dec'17 against 28.15 MnT in Nov'17.

Port-wise Brazil iron ore exports in Dec'17 - Ponta Da Madeira accounted for 49% share in Dec'17 Brazilian iron ore exports to 14.82 MnT. Other ports for Brazilian iron ore exports were Rio De Janeiro, 26% share at 7.76 MnT and Tubarao Port 20%, Acu port 4% and Sudestie port at 1%.
