Chinese excavator sales to both domestic and overseas customers during August remained largely unchanged on year at 18,076 units according to the latest data from the China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA) published on September 7. Total sales were higher by a tiny 0.8% on month.
The CCMA survey among the country's 26 major excavator producers showed that their domestic sales last month reached 9,096 units, dropping by 26.3% on year or 1.7% on month.
That domestic market sales during August would be poor was within expectation, as funding in related sectors such as infrastructure and property development was far from satisfactory, a Shanghai-based analyst said, adding that August is traditionally a slack consumption period for excavators anyway.
During last month, Chinese excavator sales to overseas buyers jumped 56.7% on year to 8,980 units, which was also higher by 3.3% on month, the CCMA data showed.
The export volume of excavators has been growing rapidly, to some extent offsetting the decline in domestic sales, as the influence of domestic brands has strengthened and production among some machinery makers overseas is being affected by the pandemic, she added.
Over January-August, total excavator sales inside and outside China plunged by 30.9% on year to 179,109 units. Among the total, domestic sales accounted for 61.1% of the total or 109,470 units, dropping by 49.9% on year, according to the CCMA data.
China excavator exports soared by 70.1% on year to 69,639 units in the first eight months of 2022, the CCMA data showed.
